Who would have thought a hundred years back that history could repeat itself? It had been predicted by many that in every 100 years a disease will come which will wipe out almost half of the world’s population. Kids went from praying to God to give them one day holiday to praying for schools to reopen real quick.
100 years ago our world had experienced a similar crisis known as the Spanish Influenza. Its earliest case came in Kansas, US. As the world had finally established peace and harmony to coexist peacefully in the end of World War 1, they had to face another deadly situation, as this virus broke out in the near end of the 1st World War. The estimated deaths were around 17-50 billion, making it one of the deadliest pandemics in human history. It was caused by the H1N1 Influenza A virus. The epidemic experienced 4 waves of the virus, it lasted for almost 2 years. The basic reproduction number of the virus was between 2 and 3., the close quarters massive troop movements of the World War 1 hastened the pandemic, and probably both increased transmission and augmented mutation. The basic symptoms were that of a common flu i.e., high fever, headache, runny nose, sore throat but the intensity was so high that it led to several fatalities.
If the world together could defeat this deadly virus back in 1918, when we didn’t have any advanced medical research and treatment, which we enjoy now. It is much easier today to fight a pandemic, however, due to changing time the virus also evolves and becomes much more dangerous, but we can get rid of it together.
This is so good
